Arghhhhhh
Why did they have to muck up the networking in Panther
Can anyone PLEASE help me figure this out?
All of a sudden, without changing ANYTHING, I am no longer able to network my G4.
NOTHING was changed. My other computers can access the G4, no problem, but now some permissions are messed up or something.
ARGHHHHhhh.
I'm ready to go back to Jaguar.

I'm still trying to figure your situation out---
Did you just upgrade to Panther? How did you do that-did you reformat and start from scratch, or did you install Panther over Jaguar (or a previous version)?
I think Panther was "not ready for prime time" when it was released, and your problem is yet another sign that Apple should have known that too.

since some permissions seems to be messed up, try repairing permissions.
to repair permissions do this:
start /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app
select your start-up partition
and click the "Repair Disc Permissions" button
id start with that at least

Permissions Repair has NOTHING to do with permissions of user data... in fact, it can only repair permission for items whose installer has left behind a "receipt", which is a file telling the utility what the permissions should be.

There is a new update to Panther just made available by Software Update yesterday (10.3.2). It is supposed to fix networking problems. Give it a try.

Sadly, OSX 10.3.2 doesn't seem to have solved the problem.
I can watch the AppleTalk zone randomly dropping in and out. We don't have this problem with OSX 10.x and OS9 Macs connected to the same network.
