I've bought myself a PB12" [new switcher after 12 years of Windows/UNIX] & Airport Extreme bas station for x-mas... To add to the excitement and merriment of Christmas I have decided to keep it all boxed until the big day..

Just so I'm not stuck without wireless on Christmas day, I want to check that I have the right cabling..

Q1 I have a ASUS ADSL router - do I need to connect it to my Airport base station with a cross-over cable or just a standard CAT5?

Q2 Does anyone know if the hp deskjet 5550 works ok [including Hi-Res photo printing] when used in USB mode through the Airport base station?

Many thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure a standard CAT5 will do nicely.

Can't say about your printer though?

Merry Xmas.

You definitely will NOT need a crossover cable.
And your printer seems to be on the list.

Make sure you use the right ports on your router and AEBS; you need to connect an ethernet LAN port on the router to the WAN port on the AEBS. You also need to set the base station up as a bridge; you'll uncheck the "share a single IP address" box on the Network tab of the Admin Utility.

After that, enjoy!
