I have a powerbook 3400 in which the ethernet/modem card has gone bad. I want to make use of this machine along with a rev. D iMac. I want to give these 2 machines to my son when he gets married this summer. Along with the iMac goes an AEBS. The iMac connects to the base by way of a Belkin USB external card. Now for the 3400......with the ethernet/modem card shot, I can replace it (which I really do not want to do if I could cause I want the 3400 to use the built in 56K modem in the Airport base), I could get a pcmcia ethernet card and hook to the base by ethernet, or I can get a wireless pcmcia card.
Which of these would make the most sense?
If I go pcmcia wireless, I am looking at the Orinoco Classic Gold. This card requires 8.6. Can I run 8.6 on the 3400 with 36MB of ram? Are drivers available or needed?
Oh, don’t think I am a cheapo, I plan on giving them my 17” FP iMac (with airport card) to replace the 3400 when they come out with a new iMac that is worthwhile.
Thoughts and ideas appreciated.......Rich
