I have a Performa 6200/75 (yes I know it's old but I need it a bit longer and I need it on the internet) that has an old Asante LC/PDS 10BT installed. It's currently running Mac OS 7.5.5 with MacTCP installed (obtained from the Asante driver).

When I physically hooked up the Cat 5 cable from the router (Linksys Wireless B) to the LC PDS card, turned the Mac on, I see the blinking green LED on the NIC but do NOT see ANY LED light on the router itself!

Why can't I even obtain a connection? When I unhook the Cat 5 cable from the LC PDS card and plug it into a Windows XP machine, the router's green LED lights up as it should!

I had exactly the same problem and contacted Asante tech support. They told me that particular card is so old that it predates the 10/100 autonegotiation standards and cannot connect to a 10/100 switch like the LinkSys. The solution is to find an old 10BaseT hub. Connect the 6400 to the hub and uplink the hub to the LinkSys router.
