I have just switched to the MAC and have a 15"Al PB. I have an Airport Base Station and am wondering if it is possible to plug in AC power connection on the AEBS and using the PB determine relative signal strength without first establishing my DSL connection.

I would like to avoid holes in the drywall where I have an obvious signal problem.

If this is possible what do I need to do on the PB and/or AEBS?

Thanx

Sure, you can do that. The AEBS doesn't require internet to connect to a computer. Just turn it on and it will auto connect, unless you have changed something. There is also an option for showing the Airport signal menu in the menu bar in the Network preference pane of System Prefs.

Thanx! I will try that. I've been lurking in these forums for quite some time and I have gathered that strength of signal (1 bar, 2,3,4) people refer to is the radar-like display at the top of the screen.

Is there a cut-off point for reliable "internet" browsing? Say-- anything 2 or above will yield similar results but one bar might cause drop-outs for streaming media?

Thanx again.
