Hi there,

I read an article on connecting up the LinkSys WET11, but I still can't make it access the internet for some reason.

I have a PC connected up with an 802.11g LinkSys ADSL Router on the IP of 192.168.1.1

Upstairs I have a G3 Mac on OS9 with the WET11 Bridge on the IP of 192.168.1.225

I can access both IPs from both machines which is positive and means they are within communication distance.

I cannot access the internet (ie www.google.com) on the Mac. I have had a play with the TCP/IP settings but I'm not sure what they should be set to. At the moment I've got it set to:

Connect via: Ethernet
Configure: Manually
IP Address: 192.168.1.101
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

I have no name server or router listed. Should I?

I used to have a PPP 56k dial-up but as far as I know I've disabled that and it isn't causing this problem.

Can anyone help?

To set your Mac to a fixed IP, do the following:

Set your TCP/IP prefs or control panel to MANUAL (Not DHCP with MANUAL).
Set the IP address to 192.168.1.2
Router or Gateway = 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0

Then use your browser to go to the LinkSys Admin program at http://192.168.1.1

Click on the Status tab. Scroll down to the WAN settings and make a note of the IP addresses of the primary and secondary Domain Name Servers (DNS).

Reopen the TCP/IP prefs panel or control panel and put the IP addresses of the two DNS servers on separate lines into the Domain Name Server box (if you are using OS X) or the Name Server Addr. box (if you are using OS 9). Hit apply and you should be in business.

John,

You're the man. Thank you very much for taking the time to help me. I'd not got the router set right and I had no clue what to stick in the name server box. It's now setup as you instructed and it's working perfectly.

BroadBand on my Mac - woohoo!

Thanks,

Ben
