This was forwarded to me by my roommate the other day:

I have been basically running into the same exact problem echoed by this thread, but I wanted to see if any of you had input on this issue.

My apartment setup is basically the aforementioned Linksys router connected to cable service with comcast.net. My friend has PC, I have the 15" AL powerbook with the airport extreme card.

Since I moved in a few weeks ago, I have had nothing but agonizing troubles with the connection. If I connect directly to the router with an ethernet cable, that's fine...(actually, I have to run a report on dslreports.com but otherwise, it seems smooth).

However, when I try connecting wirelessly, results have been sporadic. For a week it was ok, but all other time in the past 6 weeks, I have had horrible spotty connectivity.

The article suggests that my problem is the the airport extreme card and the 802.11 b BEFW11S4 don't like each other.
I will have to fool around and perhaps adjust some obscure setting my friend mentioned last night, but I am not hopeful. Even the WET11 bridge wouldn't work last night!

It's also suggested that this is not an Apple-only problem; some guy with a VAIO mentioned having the same issue.

What solutions exist apart from (a) buying a G-rated router to replace the B-router or (b) connecting to my router using a wire (which entirely defeats the purpose of having a wireless card in the first place) or (c) downgrading to an 802.11 b card?

This problem has been entirely frustrating and a source of friction at the apartment (I ended up resetting my router a few times and po'ed the roommate).
Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!
