DSL and using internal modem -- how?

Now that Panther has faxing software built in, I thought I'd give it a try.
BUT: the phone line now goes into the DSL router, obviously for DSL use. My question -- can I do both? I have a stand-alone fax machine (it uses the same number as the DSL), but it sure would be handy to be able to fax from the computer itself. Frequently, I print things out just so I can fax them.
So I'm a little perplexed as to how I can accomplish this. Do I need a splitter perhaps, so it can go to both the router and the computer?
Thanks.

Ya, you can split it, but make sure you filter the line to the fax machine AFTER the split.

I don't think aaanorton read your post clearly, ie. you want to not change any connections right? Just keep your current DSL connected and fax down that connection? Why wouldn't that work? Isn't there a tone on every line anyway and using your modem would dial out just as it always would.
Have you tried?

Huh? Send fax tones across ethernet to the phone line?
He has to split the phone line so that one part can go to the DSL modem and the other can go (filtered) to the computer's fax modem.

I appreciate the comments and help!
It will be great to have it all set up (not to mention saving on ink for the printer.)

How exactly does one "filter the line"? What does that mean? What hardware does that entail?

The hardware is called a "microfilter," and it looks like a little phone line extender box. You filter everything EXCEPT the line to your DSL modem to keep the impedance on the DSL consistent and prevent interference with the signal.
