I have been running Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection over a standard OSX PPTP VPN for some time. I have upgraded to 10.3.2 and installed an Airport Extreme, upgraded to 5.3, and all is OK. My company will shortly make me change from PPTP to Cisco VPN. Version 4.02 of the VPN client installed fine and runs sweetly. I can access my Exchange email using IMAP and Finder connects happily to shared folders on my XP machine at work. However, Remote Desktop Connection does not run successfully over the Cisco VPN. It's starts OK and gives the me the first XP pre-login dialog, then parts of the Windows screen go black and nothing more (useful) happens.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Does anyone successfully run RDC on this configuration? Does anyone have any helpful diagnostic suggestions?

I would start by making sure my connection settings are correct. I run RDP over a Cisco VPN all the time from home, using my DSL line. It is occasionally slow but for the most part runs just fine.
