I am currently using a DI-614+ router from D-Link. I am interested in boosting my reception with one of their wireless range extenders. I am currently looking at their DWL-800AP+

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=18

I am planning on using it as a wireless repeater. Has anyone used this particular model? If so, what kind of boost did you get? What about wireless repeaters in general? Do they work well? Any other considerations someone can pass along would be appreciated.

Thank you

It works well for me. I have a D-Link router with a Belkin wireless access point. My 12" PowerBook G4 and my wife's iBook 500 are our wireless computers with Airport cards. I do use a Dell (old work ciomputer that stays in basement for the kids) to configure the repeater, but I believe it is web-based so it should work fine. It really did extend my range.

Just make sure that all encryption is the same because one small typo can be a real pain to figure out. Airport hexadecimal passwords need a "$" before the key.

Hope this helps

I bought the DWL-800AP+ and have not figured out how to get it to extend my AirPort Network. D-Link tech support was no help:

Unfortunately we can not guarantee compatibility with other manufacturers. Repeater mode is not part of the Wi-Fi certification and may not repeat devices other than those listed above.
I desparately need a way to extend my old Graphite station or replace it with an extender otpion. Unfortunately, $400 for two AirPort Extreme base stations is TOO EXPENSIVE (maybe someone from Apple is reading this… probably not).

Is there a good web page explaining how to use the DWL-800AP+ to extend an AirPort?

Team,

I too have a D-Link 614+ wireless router and have not been able to get the DWL-800AP+ to EXTEND my network. I have been able to configure it via fixed ethernet and have setup the password as I do on the 614+. But no dice.

I also updated the firmwate on the 800AP to 2.0 and updated the 614+ to 2.30, but still it does not seem to extend.

The WLAN light flickers a bit, but it is very dim (when compared to how bright it is when you have fixed cable plugged in).

If I bring in a wireless windows box in, is there a way to check the status of the 800AP via a wireless tool?

thanks,

I took my D-Link 800AP+ back to CompUSA. It wouldn't even work with a Linksys 802.11b router (which I was going to use to replace my graphite AirPort). I ended up buying an Orinco antenna and doing some surgery on my Graphite: http://www.vonwentzel.net/ABS/Extend...ite/index.html. I am getting better reception in more of my house!
