i been using my netgear rt314 router for 2+ years now, so i have no real reason to get the airport extreme base station, but lately its been giving me a lot of problems, not sure if it fried out, but its acting funny, when i release and renew my routers ip, sometimes i wont be able to renew it, but when i do renew it i get my old ip, but if i were to bypass my router and connect my mac directly to my cable modem i get a new ip, why is this?

but anyhows, should i get the aebs or stick with what i have? i heard the airport admin utility works really nice also the usb wireless printing, and whats this 56k remote thing? you can call your mac and wake it up or what?

Your cable modem, like most DHCP servers, does not reuse an address for some new device immediately. It will hold that address for some time-dependent on whatever conditions are programmed into it-in case the original device reconnects. This isn't a problem.

I don't think that you get enough "bang for the buck" from AirPort base stations. All of these 802.11b and g devices are standards based, so buying from Apple just gets you... Oh, yeah, cool designs! That's it! It also gets you a premium price, and just about the only wireless access point in the industry that requires an application (other than your browser) to configure.
