I have searched these forums for information about this, but I couldbn't really find any detailed answers that I need.

I am new to networking and would like to setup a simple way of transfering files between my Win98 PC and my new iBook running Mac OS 10.3

I figured that FTP would be the right path to take because it is simple.

So my question is...

How exactly would you do this?

What do I need to configure on my iBook?

What do I need to configure on my PC?

Do I need any third party apps?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Well, wouldn't it be easier just to buy a crossover cable, connect it to both computers, go into network settings (sharing, I believe), enable Windows sharing and go ahead?

Sincerely,

I posted a similar question yesterday. Mac OSX (10.2.3) to Windows XP. Yes, connceting a cable and enabling file sharing SOUNDS easy. But I must be missing something because I spent about 4 hours yesterday tinkering with settings and got nowhere.

Since you make it sound so easy, can you please give step by step instructions on how to do it? I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Jeff

You're right - sometimes it can be very tricky and sometimes it just works... and I can't tell you why.

But my best solution is, instead of me trying to explain it, look at this tutorial or another, and try it from there.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply and providing the link. Actually, I have read and tried to follow that whole tutorial. The problem is, the very first statement of that tutorial, says:

Once you know your computers can "see" one another, one way to share files between the two is to enable file sharing on your PC then connect to it from your Mac. To begin looking into doing so, first check out the following Apple KB article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106471

I cannot get them to "see" each other, therefore the rest of the tutorial is not of much use.

Seems hard to believe that "sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't", but I can attest to the fact that sometimes it doesn't!

Thanks,

Jeff
