I am currently on a school network in a hall of residence. Just upgraded to Panther 10.3.2 in Jan. I have problems connecting to other servers I see in the network window.

I can see the list of servers in the window, but the clicking on them returns the error " The alias "server" cannot be opened, because the original cannot be found." However, I do know that this server is online because i can access them from the PCs on the campus.

Below is a screenshot of the network window.

what could be the problem?

It's a Finder bug, but I thought it disappeared in the late betas of Panther. Try to connect manually via Apple + K.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

How do I connect manually to the server?

Tried using the "Connect to Server..." command..

got the following error:

The Finder cannot complete the opertation because some data in "SMB://CV/acer/" could not be read or written.
(Error code -36).

Networking in Panther is broken, plain and simple. I'm still waiting for Apple to fix it...
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

The AppleScript:

"open location (choose URL) with error reporting "

opens the Jaguar "Chooser" and hard mounts the requested server.

Details can be found in Glenn Fleishmann's TidBITS eBook: "Take Control of Sharing Files in Panther". Glenn credits Dan Frakes with one-liner.
