I have added an AP basestation to my DSL gateway this way: ethernet cable from one of the gateway's three available ports to WAN port on base station. I now seem to have wireless connection to the internet on my Powerbook. That was easy. However, I can't seem to create a network between the laptop and my G4 desktop, which is connected via built-in ethernet to the HomePortal. I've turned file sharing on both computers but neither seems to recognize the other. Running OS 10.3 on both. What am I overlooking here? Any advice for this networking Neandrethal would be appreciated.

I suspect the issue is that your ABS is putting your laptop on a different subnet than the built-in router function in your DSL modem. Easiest solution would be to turn the ABS into a "bridge" instead of a router: Set the Airport to uncheck "Distribute IP addresses" automatically at the Airport Admin Utilitiy's Network tab (illustration), disabing its DHCP and NAT router functions. I also suggest connecting the ABS to the DSL modem via the ABS's LAN port.

Thanks for your help. I'll try to reconfigure things here.
