I have an iMac and a Powerbook, both with Airport cards, and an ABS. I just received my DSL router, a 2Wire 1000HW, which has a 802.11b card installed.

I want to set up the ABS to extend the range of the DSL router which is set up at one end of my house. I've played with it a little, I can set up a network with both computers using the 2Wire serving as the DHCP server. But I'm not sure if the ABS can play on this network.

I've seen the other posts where I'm supposed to uncheck the DHCP box on the ABS Admin Util, but is that sufficient to allow it to connect to the 2Wire BS or is there additional setup for the 2Wire that I need to perform for the ABS to play nice?

Also, how do I access the setup of the router through a browser? I know that the setup program uses IE, but I would hope that there was something a little more geeky and a little less hand-holdy that I could access.

TIA for the help.

You will not be able to wirelessly extend the range with your ABS. First of all, only AEBSes can do that, and secondly, they can only extend from 1 AEBS to another AEBS (no brand mixing). You could run a long ethernet cable to the ABS, and disable DHCP serving, but that may not be feasible for you.
You may want to compare signal strength of the two. You only need 1 really, so stick with the one that works best.
To config the router, log into its IP address (you'll need the default user name and password, which you WILL want to change). This is probably listed in the docs somewhere. Most likely it is .1 on your subnet. So, if you Mac is 192.168.0.2, then the router would be 192.168.0.1. You should be able to make any and all config changes once logged in. I wish A(E)BSes config'ed this way...

You'll need the password and user info your ISP gave you
