Has anyone out there set up a wireless network for a large area like a neighborhood or park. If so how did it go. Is there a nook or documentaion that could help inplanning this sort of venture.

Just setup an access point with a 8-10DBi omnidirectional antenna and you will be setup. Everyone else will just use wireless cards or ethernet bridges. I would recommend using the D-Link 810+'s for the clients and the D-Link 900AP+ for the access point. You can buy the antenna and cable from Fab-Corp.com. Put it in a weather proof plastic box on your roof. Run PoE CAT5 to it from your hub.
