I had connection this morning. Had the pbook sleeping all day. Went to use machine about 2 hours ago and it said that a config chged and should I move my keychain to new config. Now #1, I don't have it so softw. updates goes on its own. #2, I installed NOTHING today.

k, next I procede to go online. I realize that i'm not connected to my wireless network. So, I double chk my settings.. reboot, and still not go. So, I go to the computer that is connected directly to router and I chg the wireless settings to new 64bit encrypt passw., new network name and new network passw. NOTHING.

The airport connect dialog states(after i try to input info and connect), that there is an error connecting to network. I am putting everything in right and I've triple chked my settings.

Now, here is the big one. I reboot one last time ( prob rebooted like 100 times in past hour) and I noticed something... Right before the gray apple boot-up screen (btw, go easy guys, I know my terminology is wacked - i've recently switched a few mths ago) there is a grey screen that comes up w/ a little square icon w/ a globe pic in it flashing... then after that stays for couple secs, a little folder icon comes up w/ an apple finder pic in middle w/ a ? flashing in it. What the hell is that.

I think there is something fishy going on but I'm not sure. If anyone can help (This is getting to be a ton to read so sorry guys) I would really appreciate it.

You don't mention which wireless base station you are using. If you are using anything other than an Apple Base Station, you have to put a $ sign in front of the WEP password.

This isn't true anymore. The $ used to be required for hex** encryption keys, but now the airport software figures it out automatically. Also, some other routers support ASCII passwords (i.e. the D-Link 624 series).

try connecting to the network by going to "Other..." in the AirPort menu and putting in your network name and password there. it should work with "WEP Password" as the type of "Wireless Security," but you can force it to "WEP 40/128-bit hex" or "WEP 40/128-bit ASCII" if it doesn't.

if that doesn't work..
do you have the newest airport softare? try to get that through software update (you might have to wire into the router to get it). the newest version is 3.3.1.

i'm assuming you have OSX 10.3.3, the latest version. If you have a lower version of 10.3, I recommend updating. If you have 10.2 (or even 10.1), most of the "Other" connecting should still apply, but I think it has a little different wording (and you might have to use that $ for a hex encryption key).

**hex means it's comprised entirely of digits 0-9 and letters a-f (hexadecimal).

I just encountered a similar problem. Running 10.3.3 on a 1.25 Al book. Snow base station. Have had no problems since upgrading to 10.3.3 several days ago. Came home tonight; woke the PB from sleep. No network selected. When I selected my network, get the "There is a problem connecting to the network" message. Tried: 1. Repairing permissions (hey, why not?). No luck. Tried repairing KeyChain. No luck. Tried creating fresh key chain. No luck. Get my partner's i-Book. She is having no problems connecting to the network. Then suddenly, I have a connection. But it is through linksys, not through my Network. Then I create a new Location called home, and presto . . . I can connect to my Network. This suggests that the Automatic Location preferences perhaps are corrupted? If so, how do I delete them? If not, any other suggestions for why this behavior?
