I have a mix of older and newer wifi equipment. I recently bought two Netgear 802.11g routers. They are used on different floors in a difficult environment. Performance on my PC's is great. The older equipment I have is 802.11b stuff. (Linksys). I'd like to use two of the 802.11 b's in bridge mode so that I could connect my 15" iMac to the network. Can anyone comment on whether this might work.

Are there any options for someone who wants 802.11g from a 15iMac which will not use an Airport Extreme card. For example, can the Airport Extreme base unit be used outboard to connect. Any other devices someone might be aware of.

Thanks in Advance

Why not buy one of the various USB adapters? (example)

Depending on how old the 15" iMac is it may only have USB 1.0. If so, there won't be any speed improvement going to a USB adaptor.

You can look at using an ethernet bridge. An example would be this

You would connect to it with your ethernet port and configure it with a browser. There are other brands out there too. Make sure they can be configured with a browser since most only come with PC configuration apps.

I have not used this unit so I can't comment on the ease of use.
