I'm having a lot of trouble with my in-home wireless network and am trying to troubleshoot the cause. I think it might be my airport basestation (snow), but I'm not certain, since it works some of the time. I'm hoping that some of you out there might have run into similar problems and can help me identify a cause/solution.

Here's a summary of the things I've been dealing with:

1. When I tell my basestation to connect (via the basestation modem), it dials, says it has connected sucessfully, but when I attempt to use the internet it is clear that there is no connection - retrieving e-mail or using a browser does not work.

2. In an attempt to remedy the problem, I then disconnect, unplug the basestation, plug it back in, and try connecting again. On rare occassions, this will work giving me a valid connection, but usually it doesn't.

3. If scenario 2 doesn't work, I attempt to use the Airport Admin Utility to restart the basestation. The utility always recognizes my basestation, but when I attempt to configure the basestation, it typically gives me an error message saying something like "basestation cannot be recognized at this time."

4. When this happens, I sometime unplug the basestation and try scenario 3 again. Occassionally, this will allow me to open up the config window and restart the basestation. And, occasionally, restarting the basestation and then connecting again allows me to connect. But not always.

5. When all the above fails, I try rebooting my machine. Sometimes this helps and allows me to connect. Other times it doesn't.

6. Even once I am successful connecting, the next time I try to connect I typically have to go through some or all of the above grief to connect again.

Quite inconvenient as you might expect. I don't think it is a problem with my airport card because I can connect to other WiFi networks without fail.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Try directly connecting to your Internet service provider using your computer's built-in modem. If the modem can’t maintain a connection, then your phone line or ISP may be the culprit.

I'm having the exact same problem. The problem isn't with my ISP, because when I turn Airport off, I can connect to my ISP via built-in-modem with no problems.
