Hey everyone - I'm new to Mac's, just had my new 15" pb for about 2 weeks or so, and I just installed an ae card, and base station. I've got the pb working great... I'm typing this from my couch right now! (this is so cool) Anyway, I just stole the network connection from my roommate's PC to get the base station up and running. Now I NEED to get her PC back online... I was looking through the AE base station manual, and it said you can share the internet connection with a non-airport equipped computer by plugging the computer into the LAN port on the back of the base station... I'm sure you've already guessed, the reason I'm here is that her computer isn't "recognizing" that it's connected. Is there something special I need to do? Do I need to change settings in her computer? I don't really know how to describe our connection. I don't think its DSL per se, as we don't have any type of DSL modem. It is a highspeed (1.5mb/sec) line, and it is a ethernet plug coming out of the wall of our apartment... I'm sorry I can't give any more info... anyway, if you guys have any ideas for me to try, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
Neil

No, the patio is cool.

When the PC was connected to the DSL service, it was probably set up to use "PPPoE" to connect to the DSL service. Your AEBS is not managing the PPPoE connection to the DSL service for you. You need to change the PC to use DHCP (which is what your powerbook is using, as well, only wirelessly.)

I believe Windows labels this method "Determine IP Address Automatically".

I think these are the instructions: Click Start / Settings / Control Panel. Double-click Network.
Select Configuration tab. Hilight the TCP/IP line for the Ethernet port. Click Properties button.

Select IP Address tab. Set the pull-down menu to "Determine IP Address Automatically".

Click the Gateway tab and make sure the gateway field is blank.

Click OK, then OK again. Click OK untit it stops asking.
