Hey there,
I've got a Linksys BEFW11S4 Router as the center of my home network. One of the ports is used to run an ethernet cable down to my living room, where I have 2 devices that use it:
- SliMP3 Player with an IP of 192.168.1.50
- Xbox with an IP of 192.168.1.51
Basically, I unplug the ethernet cable from whatever device I do not want to use, and plug it into the device I'll be using. I got tired of that, so I bought a EZXS55W EtherFast 10/100 5-port Auto-Sensing Switch to hopefully take care of that.
So; my question is, do I just plug the ethernet cable coming from the router into the switch's Uplink port and plug my 2 devices into 2 of the 4 other ports? Or do I have to program an IP into the switch or change any other settings on my 2 devices?
Thanks a ton in advance,
BD

I believe your switch will be transparent to the network (it doesn't need its own IP address).

Yes, just plug it into the uplink port and the switch will work. Make sure not to use the port directly next to it as it is disabled when using the uplink port. I have that same tiny Linksys switch in my office. It's like a scale model of my router-
