Hi there,
Just posting the bug report I submitted to Apple for anyone who might be experiencing the same issue.
I'd like to report a bug that exists between my networking set up, Mac OS X v10.3.3 and Airport v3.4.1 (using an older Airport (802.11b) card.
This bug occurs after waking my computer from sleep when connected to a wireless ADSL set up. When waking the computer up, it completely freezes necessitating a shutdown by pressing the power key for 5 seconds. More seriously, this bug causes my internal hard drive not to be recognized when restarting. All I get upon restart is a grey screen (no missing system folder/question-mark icon or other firmware-related error messages), and the only way I can get my computer working again is to boot from an OS X system/installation CD then repair the internal hard drive with Disk Utility.
I discovered this bug only occurs if my network settings are configured to obtain an IP address Using DHCP. If I set Airport's TCP/IP setting to Manually, the problem does not occur.
Below are details of my configuration.
- PowerBook G3 Firewire with Airport 802.11b card (firmware version 9.42)
- Linksys WAP11 version 2.2 (firmware version 1.1)
- Alcatel 510 version 4, 4-port Ethernet router (firmware version 4.2.5)
- Mac OS X v10.3.3, Airport SW v3.4.1
