I am havng a problem that I hope someone here can help me with.
I have a G4 and an iBook(G3) that are connected wirelessly (via AirPort). Lately, for the last 2 months, my G4 has been having connectivity issues, losing its signal (sometimes most, sometimes all) and taking it between 2 to 10 mins until it gets another signal. At first, I thought our roadrunner was just being hateful.
Then I noticed that when my G4 loses its connection, my iBook still has a full signal?!? And the iBook just happens to be about 3 to 5 feet away!?! I've even had the iBook on top of my desk (where my G4 is at) and keeps a signal, while the G4 has no signal.
At first I thought my AirPort was on its death bed, but now, am thinking that my AirPort card in my G4 is on its death bed. Is there anything I can do to check to make sure that the card is still fully functional?

Try networking your iBook directly to your G4 using AirPort. What happens?

the g4 will connect to the ibook just fine, so long as the g4 has a signal. otherwise, its no go.
when the g4 loses signal, I can't even see it through the ibook and i get a message on the ibook that g4 "disconnected unexpectedlly". this is when I usually mumble some explative under my breath and turn-off my airport then turn it back on, this sometimes help.
any other idea?

If your G4 and your iBook use the same type of AirPort card, you might want to try swapping the cards to see if the one in the G4 is faulty.
I must warn you that AirPort cards can be difficult to remove, and I've broken one before while trying to remove it too hastily.

I'd actually say to check two things:
1. Check the G4's antenna cable. It may have come loose from the card, or it might be getting pinched by something. Check it for damage.
2. Check for interference. It might be something like a neighbor's cordless phone (cough*panasonic*cough). Try changing your base station's channel and see if that helps things.

I'll have to double check. The G4 came with the card, and I installed the card for the ibook.

I'll have to look at the cable to see if that's giving me problems. now changing the channel on the base station, is that done through the airport admin assistant? I remember seeing a little option for a channel on that. usually I would RTFM, but I lost my manual.
