I'm wondering if there are any other options for those of us that want wireless but have a dial-up not a broadband connection. Is the Apple Basestation the only game in town? It's a bit pricey for me!

I've looked around some, but frankly I don't know the terminology well enough to even browse the different mfgs. web sites. What I do know is this: I'd like to do wireless internet with only a dialup connection 'coz there's no broadband here.

As far as I know the Apple Base Station is the only one with dial-up support. Most others just have ethernet for broadband. If you don't need Airport Extreme aka 802.11g 54mbps speeds for file transfering then I say shop around for an older model called Apple Airport Base Station Graphite. The older model has a modem and is 802.11b or 11mbps (not that fast for file transfers).

Before my town got broadband I had the older model base station and used it with my clamshell 300MHz iBook. I worked great and ever since then I can't live without wireless internet.

You might want to post a WTB (Want to Buy) thread in the Marketplace for an older airport base station with modem. Or check ebay. Or just save up for the newer Airport Extreme Base station with modem.

Thanks for the reply and info! I suspected this was the case, but didn't realize about the difference in speeds, etc. I will use your excellent suggestion to check out the marketplace.
