hi,

here's my problem, i connected my AEBS to my cable modem, and I don't get any PC connectivity (orange light flashing) on the modem. When i hook-up my PB or eMac directly to the cable modem, I don't have such problem. I called Comcast support and they went through the normal "reset" process, and attribute the problem to the AEBS. can anyone help?

Seems like you're having the same problem again but with the base station instead of your eMac. Keep trying to reset your modem and base station and hopefully it will get a connection.

Try connecting with an ethernet cable.
Reset the modem by UNPLUGGING the power from it for a minute. Plug it back in then reset the AEBS.

Tried the reset. not working.

funny thing is when i connect the ethernet cable from modem to the <--> ethernet port of the modem, i get a PC connectivity light on the modem, if i put the ethernet cable on the WAN port then I get nothing. what am i doing wrong?

Hmm, maybe you need a different kind of ethernet cable. If you have a crossover cable, try a straight-through cable. Or vice-versa.

Is Comcast (where our troubled friend is) one of those cable providers that authenticates with the MAC address of the client's computer? I've also heard of some cable providers that specifically disallow AirPort products-the MAC address is distinctive-though they work with Apple network cards just fine. Bummer.

If this particular provider is one of those non-team players, a quick fix is an inexpensive cable/DSL router. Most of them allow MAC address "cloning," which makes the cable modem believe it's connected to the network card in the computer, not the router. Of course having to spend more money to spoof your cable modem sucks, but if that's the situation, the router should fix the problem.

Comcast doesn't need the MAC address of the client's computer(s) or router just the modem.

All I can say is I think companies that do use a MAC address and don't stop airport products are great. I feel for the person who has Comcast and Airport products. I guess I'm lucky my ISP (Charter) doesn't care what type of computer or router you have as long as you can connect and have everything working and they get their money

The funny thing is I might be working for another ISP (so close to getting the job) in my town and working against Charter. But this ISP only does high speed wireless and dial-up connections and charges way to much. I was shocked to find out they were still in business here in town because most people here have Charter and a few still on yet another dial-up ISP. All of the ISP around were I live have Mac support and will "try" to help people with Macs if they are having problems, but all they do is read from a form and really don't know anything about Macs or Mac OS X.

What happens when you connect a computer to the AEBS LAN port? Can you see and adjust the AEBS settings?

when i connect to the AEBS LAN port it the PC connectivity light starts flashing. but whenever i put it to the WAn port, i get the error message that it cant detect an internet connection. then it assigns itself an IP 169..... do you guys think my WAN port is defect???

The WAN connection for the AEBS goes to your cable modem, while your computers all go to LAN ports. The AEBS is not built to have any computer connected to the WAN port; it's looking for a broadband connection there.

The first step is to find out whether the wired portion of the AEBS works at all. Next you should try to configure the Internet connection part using a computer wired to the AEBS.

Your PC does not see the Internet? Or is it that the AEBS doesn't acknowledge that the PC is connected?

If it's the first problem, make sure the PC is set up for DHCP so it can get an address from the AEBS, and that should allow it to connect to the Internet. If it's the second problem, I'd need to know a lot more about how your AEBS and PC are set up.
