What is the status of Internet Protocol Version 6? What impact will it have on Mac OS X, and will Apple support it?

IPv6 is still having problems catching on in the Net at large.

OSX supports IPv6 out of the box, and actually has since 10.1, if I'm not mistaken. 10.3 vastly improves the UI for configuring it, however.

That at least drops one of the major barriers for Mac folks, anyway. For a local network, would using IPv6 would require special networking hardware?
