We're going to move into our first house at the end of the month and I'm trying to think about how I can optimize the wireless connection. I want FULL strength in every room and in the small back and front yard too. 802.11b is cheap, works quite well at high strength, and is alredady in my PowerBooks, and I actually have 4 802.11b access points (one will serve as router). Below is a floor plan iof the house, if that helps.

Now, I currently use active roaming with two base stations operating at opposite channel spectrums, but if I want to totally cover the environment with Wi-Fi, I'll want to use the other two I have. Can I do it, will it be a problem if there is a weak signal near a strong signal on similar channels? I've got wired ethernet into each room, so I don't need to worry about wireless bridging. Suggestions? Thanks!

Anyone? Well, here's a new network map of how I was thinking of doing this and I'd appreciate any thoughts you have!

Since this is pretty small, the larger link (for Tooki ) is available here.

Of course this is one of those things where the proof will be in the pudding... But I don't see any problem since you have wired e'net throughout the house. Try to vary the channels of the close units as much as possible. Since you already own the eqpt, might as well give it a whirl. What's the total s/f of the house? Lookin at an AEXP too, by any chance?

Thanks for the notes. So you don't think that it will be a big problem for the farther units from each other to have similar Wi-Fi channels? Anyone else? Of course they will all have the same SSID.

The house is 1700sq. ft (excluding porch, garage and deck), which shouldn't be hard to fill, but I'd also like to have some decent outdoor coverage as part of it. I'm not considering 802.11g at all. It's really not that much faster in most cases and certainly not at range. Plus, I own the equipment and have a PowerBook with the 802.11b internal card. Having full strength will be better than lower strength on g.
