All the Apple literature says no. Or at least id specifies extending AEBSes and AEXPs only, with no mention of 3rd party units. That said, It may turn out to be possible out of the box or through a hack of some sort. You can safely bet on this feature NOT being officially supported however.

anyway, I am just buying a new Airport extreme base station brand new for over $100 less then apple sells it so i will be a happy man.

I have heard it rumored that the Buffalo Airstation WLA-G54 will with with Airport Extreme and Express networks with the WDS repeater/bridge protocol.

I have used this base station with WDS and found it to be a good unit. I have never tried doing it with an Airport network.
