Probably not. From discussion on the net, it appears that Airport Express only receives music in Apple's lossless codec format, so until Apple opens up their formats, only iTunes can stream to it.

that is extremley dissapointing considering that you would want to play movies or dvds without having to plug in laptop to the stereo.

oh well ,,,,,gotta keep that damn cable i keep connecting and disconnecting whenever i want to listen to music on the stereo.

why apple, why ?....

hmm, am I to believe it won't stream mp3's?

I thought it would function by the toggle within iTunes... not dependant upon music format.

iTunes 4.6 will take your music library, no matter what format the songs are in, and temporarily convert them on the fly to Apple Lossless ... which then gets decompressed by the AirPort Express unit. Your music stays in its original format on your drive (MP3, AAC, etc.)

p.s.
I am sure over time, all major applications with support "AirTunes" ... meaning Apple or third-parties will fill in support down the line. I agree, just iTunes is nice, but full audio playback support is a must.

Yep, but knowing real, you should expect it to work with AirPort Express sometime around July of 2074 and a version that doesn't suck around 3957.

RealOne Player for Mac OS X is Mac OS X native, optimized for PowerPCs, a drag install, and a free download. It gives Mac users access to much of the audio and video content on the web. It shipped almost two years ago. If you dislike it, feel free not to use it.

If Apple provides a way for other applications to stream to Airport Express, then third-party software will likely support the Airport Express. So far, Apple has not done that.
