I am having fundamental speed issues when I upload files from my XP PC to my beige G3 with 10.3 Server.

OSX Server is set up to serve files using SMB. Connecting with the PC I can download files very fast (6MB/s) but uploading is where the problems occur. It uploads the files at 6MB/s in short bursts and then at about 100k/s for 90% of the time. It happens in regular cycles.

I think the problem is not with the hardware - SMB upload problems also occur with the Beige's onboard ethernet. Uploading via FTP is fine on the other hand. Uploading to my Quicksilver from the PC over SMB is fast too. I have recently reinstalled OSes on both PC and Mac, no change.

Any ideas? I'm stumped.
