I have a PowerMac Quicksilver and want to buy a iBook so that I can set up a WiFi connection between them. The idea being the PowerMac is connected to an ADSL Ethernet modem and someone can check the internet on the iBook from an upstairs bedroom and/or nearby back garden.
Q. Do I really need a base station or can I can get by with an internal Airport card for the PowerMac and iBook?
Q. Pointers to how set this up?
Q. Anything I should know?
Much thanks!

No you can use an internal Airport card in the quicksilver. But it would be cheaper and easier to get a wireless router. that way you don't have to have the computer on all the time when you want to use the wireless.

Thanks for the airport card tip. I thought I'd read that but needed it confirmed. As for the router, nice tip, but the PowerMac is on all day...
I need anything else besides the two cards to set this up?

You need to make sure that wherever you intend to use your iBook, it will be in range of you PM. I don't remember offhand what the range is, but if you intend to wander too far, you probably will be better off with a wireless router. You can get a good one for about the same price, or cheaper, than an airport card. And I assume that the range tends to be farther.
