I'm still trying to get the router to work with my DSL modem, on my PowerMac 7300/500. No luck yet.

I'm still not able to get the router to connect properly. The router is a WebRamp. I got to their website and plugged in the correct numbers, but still cannot get online.

The manual mentions two different cables that came with the router (I don't have those cables): Crossover cable, and Standard cable.

If I have the wrong cables, could that be the problem? And how do I know which cables I bought? I checked the ends of the cables, and both ends are the same on both cables.

The company that made the router is out of business. I called Pacbell, and they don't support routers, and cannot give me any information, other than I need to have the TCP/IP set to Ethernet and DHCP. However, another person at PacBell told me I need to set the Router for PPPOE.

I also tried the PPPOE setting on the router webpage, but that too did not work.

Is this router not compatible with my DSL modem (SpeedStream 5260)?

Any ideas? Suggestions?

If the cable end wiring is the same at both ends, you have a straight through cable, which is likely what you ought to have. Does the WAN link light on the router light? I think with PacBell you need PPPoE. Do you have a PacBell PPPoE username and password?

Thanks for your reply John,

Yes, the WAN LED in the Router does light up. I called PacBell tech support again yesterday (Saturday), and may have found some helpful information (?). The gentleman told me that it is possible (he is not sure) that I may need to call the manufacture of the SpeedStream 5260 modem and ask them to help me change the modem to a bridge connection.

I have no idea what he is talking about, but will have to wait until business hours M-F to find out. Everything else seems to be set up correctly. Modem works just fine when connected directly to the PowerMack 7300/500.

I was able to type in the correct numbers on the Router webpage. I tried several different settings (DHCP, PPPOE, and the other two as well), but was still not able to make a connection.

Any more ideas welcome. Thanks.

You should have updated us with this info on the Apple forums... anyway.
What correct numbers?
If your ISP does not use a static address for you then it will have to be a self assigning series of numbers that you would not need to type in. The modem would assign the IP address and the router would use DHCP to give out the IP addresses to your home network.
Also have you tried what I said and plugged the iBook into the router instead of the Powermac? Using OSX may make this problem a lot easier to figure out. Forget the 7300 for now until you are able to get the iBook working plugged right into the router. Once you know that the router is working properly you can more easily troubleshoot the 7300.
TRUST ME use the iBook to get your home network set up first, then add each additional computer once the basic structure is set.
