I have a working Airport network at home to which I would like to add an EyeHome through a Belkin Wireless access point.
In order to configure the Belkin access point, I connect with it over ethernet with my Mac. Since my Airport base station has 10.0.0.200 as its IP address, I assigned 10.0.0.210 to the Belkin access point as its IP address. This way, they should be on the same node. I could be talking out of my neck here, as I am no expert in this field.
Right, so in order to find out if the Belkin access point communicates with the Airport base station, I switched off the Airport configuration port in the System Preferences of my Mac. This way, its only communication port is the ethernet port that is connected to the Belkin access point. Result: no comunication.
The Airport base station is connected through ethernet with an ADSL router. The IP address of the router is 10.0.0.138. The Airport is in fact used as a bridge only. So, without the Belkin access point, my Mac is configured thusly:
IP address: 10.0.0.201
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 10.0.0.138
After setting up my Belkin access point, I figure that to check if it works, I need to change these settings. I have tried changing the IP address and the router address, without touching the Subnet mask address. Anyway, setting the router to 10.0.0.138, 10.0.0.200, or 10.0.0.210 makes no difference. Neither does changing the IP address of my Mac.
I have no idea how to approach this. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
