So...I bought my 12" PowerBook and Airport Extreme base station today. If I'm never going to use the modem in the Airport Extreme base station, is there really any point to getting the one with the modem and antenna port? I'll be using the Airport Express as an antenna or extension to the Extreme base station when Express comes out. Do you all think I'll need the antenna capability?

If you can afford the more expensive model go for it. ANY wireless base with an external antenna (get one as soon as you can afford it) will beat the pants off a comparable model with an internal antenna. In fact, a model with DUAL antennas will perform better still, but Apple doesn't offer one...(yet?) A better signal means faster, more efficient network traffic, so even if you're getting by with a less-than-stellar signal, you'll get much better service with the better signal.

Moot point!

Apple discontinued the Airport Extreme without the Modem and Antenna Port and dropped the price of the one with by $50 or so (don't remember exactly)

So, Apple made your decision for you!

Apple's decision went in the correct direction, too. They could have just gone with the lesser model. Good for them...and us!

Nope... My local Apple Store had the model without the modem in stock for $150 with education discount. I got that one, but I can exchange it if need be. The reason I didn't think I'd need the antenna capability was that I'll be getting an Airport Express when it's released. I thought this would work similarly to an antenna and extend my range. Is this incorrect? Should I exchange for the model with antenna port? Thanks!

Just to let you know, all Base Stations made have antenna ports. it's just whether if they are externally accessible or not. If you were to open one up, you will find an internal MC connector in every one. From there, you can connect any antenna you want. A little cutting is needed. Or just get a Linksys.
