I have a Belkin WiFi 802.11b AP that makes a faint clicking noise which drives me insane. I think it's the LEDs flashing on and off that actually are making the noises that I'm hearing. Anyway, I've been thinking about replacing it with an Airport Extreme and wonder if I'll notice any noises with it.

I've never heard it make any noise. It does get hot, however.

Uhm, I NEVER EVER EVER heard a LED make a noise !
It might be a relais or so. Although it doesn't make sense to use that for making a LED blink. After all, we're talking about a WLAN router, not a blinker in a car, right ?

It could be a relay... I'm not sure. I just know that there is a very faint noise associated with the LEDs blinking on and off with my AP... No, I'm not crazy

I've heard a strange clicking coming from my Airport card once. I just turned Airport on and off and it hasn't happened since.

I have never heard of a modern networking device using a mechanical relay; LEDs are typically turned on and off by transistor swtiches, all of which should be silent.
Thermal stress, however, can cause circuit boards to flex, which can make noise when the board moves in its mounting. If it's that much of a problem, it's probably bad, so if it's within warranty just get it replaced. If not, drop a lot less than you'll pay for an AirPort Extreme base station and buy another third-party wireless router.
