i have this problem with MSN and a linksys base wireless station. the router connects my PB and 3 PCs to the net through a DSL modem. the net connection is working fine, and the network seems okay. my PC can see the other two, but my PB can't see the PCs. but the my PC CAN see the PB and access its shared directory.

so that's the network situation.

now, the problem is that MSN keeps showing an error that says that it had some kind of error talking to the MSN Switchboard. and then every now and then, it would get disconnected. this seems to stop after i restart, but it's coming back after a while of use.

i'm pretty sure the problem is on the network. but i have no idea where. a friend of mine have a linksys router too, and he seemed to have the same settings (with the same provider), but no such problems on him.

i'd appreciate any advice and help you guys can give me. this is driving me and my friends nuts.

thx.

It sounds to me like your OS X firewall is blocking Windows File Sharing. Have you opened those ports in the firewall?

file sharing?? what does that have to do with MSN server connection? and my OS X firewalls are still down, and the ports have been opened on the router.

You said the net connection was working fine and the network was OK. Then you said the Powerbook can't see the PCs, but the PCs can see the PB. Based on that, I thought you were having trouble with file sharing.

Now though you didn't say it directly, I'm guessing that MSN switchboard means you're having trouble using the chat client. I'd guess that since it works fine with the PCs, the problem must be specific to your Mac. I would suggest you make sure you have the latest client, and if your problem continues, try a different client. There are many MSN chat clients available for OS X. You can find them on MacUpdate.
