I just purchased an Apple Aiport extreme base station. It is working perfectly with two wireless laptops and one wired desktop (PC... ugh).
I also have a Linksys WET 11 Wireless Ethernet Bridge. I use this to connect my TIVO for program guide updates, web access, etc. In the past it worked fine when I had everything was running through my Siemens Speedstream 2623 router.
So here is the problem... I cannot access the Linksys WET 11 on the network.
I have turned off all security on the airport base station and still no luck.
In order to set up the Linksys WET 11, it needs to be connected via wire to the network (in my case through the airpor base station). I should be able to get to it via a web setup utility, but it just doesn't work.
Also - when I have the WET 11 connected to the Aiport base station, it seems to disconnect wireless network. It almost feels like the WET 11 and the Airport are "fighting" with each other.
Does anyone know how to get this configured?
Thanks.

The problem is the Airport and the LinkSys are by default on different subnets.
Connect the WET-11 directly to one of your computers via an ethernet cable. Set the TCP/IP settings on the computer to:
Connect via ethernet
Configure manually
IP address = 192.168.1.2
gateway or router = 192.168.1.225
subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
Then type http://192.168.1.225 into a browseer window.
This should connect you to the WET11's admin program.
Once you are in the admin program, change the Linksys IP address from 192.168.1.225 to 10.0.1.225.
Then change your TCP/IP settings on your computer to:
IP address = 10.0.1.50
Gateway = 10.0.1.1
Subnet = 255.255.255.0
Log back into the LinkSys Admin page which you will now find at http://10.0.1.225
In the LinkSys admin settings change whatever settings are necessary to connect the LinkSys Wirelessly to the Aiport Base Station.
Once it shows connect to the ABES, change your TCP/IP settings on your computer back to DHCP and see if you can access the internet through the WET11. If you can, then the WET11 is set up correctly.

thank you for the quick and detailed response.
i tried what you said to do, but am still having problems.
when i type the address of the linksys into safari (or explorer) it does not connect.
here is a step by step of what i did... please let me know if you see me doing something wrong.
1. system preferences > network
2. clicked on tcp/ip
3. changed CONFIGURE IPv4 from "Using DHCP" to "Manually"
4. entered IP address, subnet mask, and router addresses exactly as indicated
5. clicked apply
6. opened safari (also tried explorer) and entered the address of the linksys WET 11
that's as far as i can get. the address never connects.
any more insight you can offer would be appreciated.

The problem may be that you MUST have a cable connected DIRECTLY between your computer and the WET11 to properly configure it. This, by the way, is a good idea for browser configuration of ANY wireless device. Anyway, when John said "connect via ethernet," he meant physically putting a wire between your computer and the WET11.
If you actually did this already (it's not clear from your second post), then you probably need to reset the WET11, because it's not seeing traffic on its default address. Press and hold the Reset button on the back for about 30 seconds-the Diag light on the front should blink or flash when the box has been reset. Once you've done this, everything is as it was from the factory, including the default admin password of "admin" (no quotes). You should be able to get into the configuration system now.

thanks.
i figured out the reset part and have been finally able to get the linksys wet to work. i can connect to the internet from my laptop using the linksys wet to the aebs. so... i am making progress.
however, when i disconnect from my laptop and move it to the tivo - i cannot get the connection to pick up again.
the tivo setup works - the only change made to the everything was the aebs instead of the siemens router.
is there a way to view connected devices in the aebs utility? i was thinking i might be able to see it connected and then add to the approved list for access. my plan is to use mac addresses for security (i did in the past), so thought this might help lock in the connection. this is probably a stretch, but figured i would ask
any thoughts?

What are the settings on the tivo? Is it set to connect using DHCP?

it is a series one sony svr 2000 tivo that i added a turbonet (ptvupgrade) card to. the linksys wet 11 is connected to the tivo thru the turbonet card. so, the only setting i make on the tivo is to change the number it dials for updates to ,#401.
as i mentioned earlier - i had this setup working perfectly earlier. the only change in everything (hardware, wires, etc) is the addition of the aebs.
ptvupgrade had suggested rebooting the tivo to get it to ask for a new ip address - which i have, but it did not work.

I have two WET11's and I think your problem is this...
The WET11 has a switch on the back. X and II.
When connected to a lone computer it should be in X mode. When used for multiple computers, as in a hub, switch to II mode. I don't have a TiVo but maybe this wil work.
Luck.

I didn't know that the WET11 didn't autodetect its connection! The "X" setting is for 'crossover,' or basically using a standard cable between two boxes that think they should act like computers. The "II" setting is for when you connect the box to a computer.
