Has anyone used power networking adapter, such as Corinex Powerline products? (I am not talking about boardband internet from electrical powerline)

My house doesn't fed well with wireless network (can't get coverage everywhere), and wondering if those powerline ethernet adapter work well in practice? Are there any shortcomings or problems? Any security problems (e.g. neighours might get access to my network?)

Thanks in advance.

I have had a 2 Powerline Enternet Bridges for over a year now. Something happened to one of the units (it just stopped working a couple months after I got it, maybe a power surge, but I'm not sure). I sent it back to IOGear for a replacement at no cost other than shipping. Other than that I've had no problems. I have one unit connected to a router in the room that connects to the internet, and another unit in this room about 65 feet away.

I get speeds of about 1MB/s thru powerline, which is fine for my internet usage (~160K/s top speeds) but significantly slower than a direct patch cable. I doubt wireless could do better at the current range and 4 walls in the way, but I don't transfer many large files thru ethernet so it's not really an issue.

The only thing you might need to look out for are that some Powerline units can only function in Bridge mode on a Mac. Meaning you would be limited to 2 for your house (as is my case). Performance thru a surge protector varies, too.

Hope this helps.
