Hey gurus

Believe it or not, in the part of the world where I currently live it's cheaper to buy two airport cards over eBay than one card and a wireless router. So, is there any downsides to this? .. I want to wirelessly connect my MDD and iBookG3.

My MDD will obviously be getting my broadband via ethernet and sharing the connection via airport. Will I be able to transfer files and listen to iTunes on each one wirelessly? What about printing to the printer connected to the MDD wirelessly etc.

Thanks in advance.

You are ALWAYS better off with a dedicated wireless router:
• The MDD would need to always be on AND awake
• Poorer reception from s/w base
• A router adds a layer of protection between your computer and the internet
• Better security and features on a router than s/w base

...To name a few. All the things you mentioned are possible on either set-up (but get a router).

I noticed many Rendezvous services were not routed correctly between wired and wireless when using a software basestation, since your wired computer and your wireless computers are on a different subnet. Always better off with a dedicated router. Get one of those on eBay for $50 or so. (Much less if you only need 802.11b)
