Just bought an Airport Extreme card for my iBook. So, I got to the local lancafe, and they have the base station configured to only let specific Airport MAC addys on the net. So he adds mine in, etc. But, I can't see the signal, nor get on the net. We tried and I couldn't see the signal. My question is, do I have to configure something, or do I need a new card.

Dont know if this is related or not, but a week ago, i plugged my cousins ethernet cable for her cable modem into my iBook and it didnt get on the net either.

If you can't see the signal, my first guess is that either the card is malfunctioning or the antenna is not fully seated in the card. Double-check the antenna connection and ensure that it is all the way in. I know when I installed Airport Extreme card in my PowerBook I had to press really hard to get the antenna in. YMMV. Good luck!

Antenna is all the way in... How do I know if the card is malfunctioning or not? is there a way to test it? And yes using DHCP is on.

Has it ever seen a wireless signal anywhere? Drive by a local university or some downtown businesses and you're bound to see somebody's network. If no it seems like a malfunctioning card (Airport is ON, right??

If you can see or even join other networks, the router's configuration is most likely at fault.

I've been having the same problem with my airport card. It was working for the last few months and all of a sudden it doesn't. The card detects all the networks in the area. I used the Airport Utitlty and it says that I am connected but Mozilla or any other programs will not work. So I'm forced to use dial up for the time being. If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated.

That seems like a different problem. The above poster can't see the network at all (in the airport menu, I imagine)

Indeed. I'll see if it works other places.
