Hello,

I have currently got a switch with an uplink connection as well, my main PC (windows xp) is the internet gateway (the one that connects to the net - USB adsl) and this is linked to my switch along with my iBook and my other windows machine. I am fed up of connecting my iBook to that switch and would like to have a wireless network for my iBook. What should I do?
I dont have an airport adaptor for my iBook but can purchase one. I have been advised by someone that i should buy a wireless piece of hardware and link it to the uplink port on my switch and that this should work fine. Will this work? and can anyone recommend the hardware I should buy.

nb: i still want to connect the two windows machine with wires.

steps for a simple and driver-free wired and wireless network:
1. get rid of the usb aDSL modem/connector. Get your telco or provider to swap it for an ethernet-based one.
2. get a router (linksys, et al.) that has both ports and wireless capability (802.11b or b & g).
3. connect ethernet aDSL modem to router. Configure router.
4. connect all computers--two wired PCs, one wireless ibook--and they will all be on the same LAN (your router), sharing the same connection (aDSL).
You heard me! Sod off, Sadr!
