I want to run a cable along my wall, in china its hard to get white CAT 5? cable, you can only get prison grey.

Can I use telephone cable with ethernet plugs on it?
Telephone cable is a lot thinner, but would it work?

Telephone cable won't work. You need Cat5 cable and must be very carefull about the end wiring.

You can get CAT5 cable in various different colours, although I don't believe I have ever seen white.

White Cat 5 cable is rare, but not unheard of.

Alas, you cannot use phone wire -- it lacks the necessary twisting (the "twisted" in "twisted pair", which is the T in 10BaseT and 100/1000BaseTX). 10BaseT can use Cat 3 or 4 wire, 100/1000BaseTX require Cat 5.
