I'm attempting to get my iBook to connect to the internet with my not-so-Mac-friendly ISP with said ISP's provided/supported USB modem. I've got the modem working just fine, but I can't connect (the connection always gets refused at a certain point). I found out yesterday that they use different MTU, MRU/RWIN, and MSS settings to the defaults, which seems to correspond with the error I get in my connection log.

I know how to change the MTU ('sudo ifconfig {device} mtu 1400' in Terminal), but I'm kind of stuck when it comes to changing the MRU/RWIN and MSS.
The MRU needs to be 1400, and the MSS needs to be 1432.

Does anyone know the commands for this (or where to look for them)?

You might try IPNetTunerX from http://www.sustworks.com

any ISP that is worth anything has ethernet modems. If they provided you a USB one, get rid of it. Demand an ethernet modem.

All your problems will be solved.

UK ISPs tend to only provide USB ones so as to make their support job easier with the clueless users - not to mention this ISP doesn't even officially have Mac support for it's DSL service (and I can't afford to take a gamble on buying a new modem if I won't be able to get it to connect anyway, so suggesting it doesn't really help... :/). I just know it's supposed to be possible to connect to it with the aforementioned MTU, MRU, and MSS settings, even with a USB modem. I've had my iBook for four months, and still haven't managed to get it online, it's really very frustrating. X_X;;

Unfortunately, I tried that some four months ago, both there and here, and I'm still having no luck.

Thankyou for the suggestion, though. ^^; I appreciate the help.

EDIT: I suppose I should mention that IPNetTunerX didn't help, and neither did a similar free app, called 'RMAC'... :/
