In the past (when we were on OS 10.2.6) I was able to just drag a network drive that I had mounted on the desktop over to the dock. Then when I clicked it from the DOCK it would automatically connect (and ask for a PW if it wasn't keychained). Now in 10.3.4 it doesn't seem to work anymore. When I click it in the Dock I get a questionmark on the icon. Is there a new way to map drives to the dock in Panther?

So I've discovered what's happening. I was creating the shortcut in the dock then unmounting (command E) the networked drive. then trying to re-mount it from the dock. This is when the question mark shows up. If I restart the computer then the dock shortcuts work. However if I unmount the drive the shortcut from the dock stops working. Is there a way to get the dock shortcut working (after unmounting) without a restart?
