I'm signed up here in the UK with Tiscali. They sent a Sagem USB 'F@st 800' modem, which works with my Dad's Windows ME laptop, but not with my iBook. It should work though according to Sagem's website. I've downloaded the driver, but in the modem monitor sotware which comes with it it only ever says that the modem is 'initialising' and doesn't get any further. It doesn't let me select the modem type from the list in the modem tab in Network Prefs; rather, when you ask to set up a new 'location' on the Mac, where it used to give me two initial options (internal modem and ethernet) it now gives me a third, something like 'USB ADSL en1' (can't remember exactly, am not at my Mac right now). Whatever settings I try, it doesn't work. The only info I have had to put in on the PC has been into a new 'dial-up networking' file. The info has been:
the account name
the password
and, oddly, into where you'd normally put the phone number: 0,38

Does anyone have any ideas how to get this working on my iBook? Because I don't.

P.S. Please don't bother replying 'get an ethernet modem'. It's not an option, so it's not helpful.

You need to put in these settings in the ADSL monitor application.

In Configuration

ATM Channel VPI = 0
ATM Channel VCI = 38
Encapulation type = PPPoA VCMUX
ADSL standard = Multi Standard

These settings work very well on 10.3-10.3.9

However, I cannot get them to work with Tiger!

hope this helps.
