We have a mixed network (Mac and PC) using a Win2K server. We've previously been running optical fibre between buildings but that's been very expensive. So I'd like to extend our network to one more building using AirPort/WiFi instead of fibre. It's directly across the street from a building already on the network. We only need 2-3 computers in the new location. Has anyone used AirPort in a similar configuration?

I'm guessing I'd need 2 AP Basestations and 2 external directional antennae. And probably a small hub to hang off the 2nd basestation to get back to cat5. Is this accurate? Any recommendations on external antennae? Would it be more cost effective to go with dlink WAPs instead of AP Basetations? Any problems running wireless security features on a mixed network?

TIA......joe

Apple's AirPort equipment is not ideal for that setup -- neither in configuration nor in price.

Network gear manufacturers make wireless bridging equipment, and that's exactly what you need. Look for it.

Thanx for the advice Tooki. I ended up going with dLink APs (SuperG) and directional antennae. The setup works great between offices (indoors). Hopefully mounting and aiming the external antennae will go as smooth. regards....joe
