for some reason my airport extreme base station, connected directly to my cable modem via ethernet, seems to cut off every night.

It is all working fine when i set it in the morning, then i leave it alone and it works fine all day, but the next morning the internet will stop working on all the pc's and macs.

I am using dhcp and nat to distribute the ip adresses, thought this might be the problem but without using these i dont really know how to set up the ip address settings without "conflicts".

Has anyone else had this problem in the past?
it is very strange because i dont recall it happening for the first week, then i enabled WEP 128-bit and the problem began. I have subsequently turned this off becuase i live in a village in little england (not exactly hacker central) but the problem continued.

I rang apple a minute ago and the guy sounded like he had a simple enough solution but wanted me to pay for the service.

NB: I am using NTLworld cable access with a motorola sb4100 modem.

Airport reception is apparently fine for all the computers in the mornings, but they are unable to browse the web. The short term solution i have found is to reset the base station by unplugging it and turning it on again.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Can the computers ping one another when the base station acts up?

absolutely, they can also see eachother in the finder network window, both macs and pc's. But none of them can access the internet. The modem appears to be fine, and the activity light flashes sometimes. But whatever is bridging the two ends isnt connecting.

The next time you can't access the Net via AirPort, try plugging one of your Macs directly into your modem and confirming whether or not it's the base station or the modem itself that's giving you problems.

it seems not to work, unless i reset the modem by cutting the power and then turning it back on.

However, when i then connect it to the base station, no joy (unless of course i reset that)

by the way, thanks for the help, it is really nice to see people want everyone to enjoy the mac experience.

1. Make sure that the cable modem is connected to the WAN port and not the LAN port of the AEBS.

2. Check to see if you have all AEBS firmware updates and current drivers installed, http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/

3. Do a hard reset of the AEBS.

thanks,

all seems to be working, great to have such help on this topic.

It was really annoying to spend a loy of money on something like this to find it only works for 24 hours at a time.

This kind of thing makes me glad i switched.
