Hello peeps...

Im new to using wifi spots and using my airport neither of which ive used yet...

I turned on my airport on my powerbook earlier and i noticed im getting two signals - One named "NETGEAR" the other "Actual Adress around the corner" when I select netgear it says there was an error in connecting etc When I select the local adress one - It prompts me for a password... Now - are both of these actual hotspots? or just other people with an airport running? Or are they base stations??
If they are, can i piggyback the signal in anyway shape or form?

Would appreciate any pointers

Cheers : )

My guess is that those are both base stations/hotspots somewhere. Don't know why you'd be getting an error on the one, but the other one is password protected, so leave it alone. Anyway, I doubt that they are networks generated by an individual computer, so you aren't really gonna be piggybacking, but if you could figure out how to get onto that NETGEAR network you might be able to get net access.

I also find it kinda funny since I have a network named NETGEAR that's being generated by our next door neighbors. Maybe it's the default name for a base station by some brand?

hmmm ahh ok, thanx...

Do you think its possible to connect to "Netgear" and get net access? Macstumbler says WEP isn't enabled - Though when i try to connect all I get is "There was an error joining the slected airport network" Whatcha reckon?

Anyone had similar problem??

Love to help you, but I'm just afraid that I don't have enough experience. Truth be told, I'm a bit of a newbie myself when it comes to networking. Just sharing what little info I do have.
