I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this - but I'm heading to the Apple Store this weekend to get a new iBook and I want to make sure I know for sure before I spend extra money on an Airport card.

At home, we have our 800 MHz iMac act as the Base Station - it uses an original Airport Card.

Now, with this new iBook, it only takes Airport Extreme, right? If so - will the Airport Extreme card be compatible with the iMac, using the original Airport card, as the base station?

Any info would be great!

Thanks in advance.

Should be just fine. Airport Extreme is fully backwards compatible with Airport.

I have this setup as well, with the difference that the 'Base G5' has the Extreme and the iBook has the regular Airport. Works great.
if there were no Mac
it would be necessary to invent one

You should have no problems with this setup.

We have an original ABS at work and a G4 with an airport card both of which act as base stations. Newer iBooks and PowerBooks with AE have no problem connecting to either of them.
