I am sure this has been covered before but i cant find any useful info.
I have a home network I wish to access from a remote site.
i am wondering what i need to do to configure things.
My set up is;

Adsl Conection
netgear router
static Ip
MacOSX

There's VNC for OS X... I use it for windows and it works good

Go to http://www.dyndns.org/ and read up on dynamic DNS. Reading the site and using the clients there you can set up access to your home PC from anywhere free of charge. I've been using it for years.
